Thanks for that, Jeanette. I haven't read Gilead, but have heard good things about it, so will have to have a look. When it's done well, second-person can be very effective, but it's not easy. Researching material for this post has made me think that I might like to experiment with it for a short story (maybe even flash fiction), but I think I'd find it too torturous to attempt a whole novel.
