Hi Jenny - Yes, it is hard. I think the more books you read in a certain genre, the easier it is to pick the twists too. For the example I gave at the start, there were other reviewers who thought it was a fantastic twist. And I know I've missed twists that friends have picked up. Also interesting now that I'm approaching it as an author and trying to put twists into my own manuscript. Hard to know whether there's too little or too much foreshadowing until it goes to beta readers. I think that's one thing I loved about 'The Secret Keeper'. It wasn't the twist so much that was incredibly unique, but the brilliant set-up. I can only aspire - LOL Thanks for your comment :)
