Thanks for an interesting post, Nola. Taylor Swift comes to mind - for instance 'You belong to me' ('But she wears short skirts I wear T-shirts She's cheer captain And I'm on the bleachers Dreaming about the day when you wake up And find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time' The few songs lyrics I've written have been narrative (surprise, surprise), though whether they have that emotional punch is another thing. Though for me Northern Beauty and Namu of the Waterfall http://jeanetteohagan.com/nardva-files/poems/namu-of-the-waterfall/ pull on my heart strings (both sad love songs) and Winds of Time (which I wrote about my dad's dementia).
Hi Jenny - Thanks for that. I haven't followed much of Taylor Swift's music, but that's a good example. And no, it doesn't surprise me that your songs are narrative :) Will have to check out the ones you've listed. Thanks for sharing.
